ALL PATIENTS WHO ARE PLANNING TO UNDERGO THEIR SURGERIES MUST CAREFULLY READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND APPLY THEM WITH ADEQUACY IN THE PERIOD PRIOR TO RECEIVING THEIR TREATMENT
  • In the current epidemiological context the preoperative PCR test for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within the established presurgical period is NOT mandatory as a general rule for all patients.
  • Our Medical Team and the Medical Directorate of the hospitals could establish this obligation for selected cases, in certain epidemiological situations or due to clinical criteria detected in some patients.
  • Unless instructed otherwise, the patient is exempt from performing the preoperative PCR test for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within the established presurgical period.
  • In some hospitals a quick antigen test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus may be required at the time of patient admission for surgery on the surgery day, the cost of this test is borne by the patient.
  • The patient must notify the Medical Team immediately about the appearance of the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at any time before or after treatment.
  • The signs and symptoms of COVID-19 are nonspecific and its presentation may even be without symptoms, the most frequent being fever, chills, fatigue, muscle pain or joint pain, loss of taste, loss of smell, conjunctival congestion, nasal congestion, sore throat, dry cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, sputum production, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, headache, confusion, altered consciousness, irregular pulse, palpitations, skin rash, etc.
  • Keep in mind for your own personal safety that currently the most frequent situations of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection are caused by aerosol vectors that persist for hours or days in the air from places that are poorly ventilated, not very spacious, crowded, shared, those where people speak loud, sing or where those present maintain a high respiratory rate, all of them places where it is not possible to establish any type of interpersonal distance as safe; contagion outdoors is highly unlikely.
  • This protocol does not completely guarantee that you avoid the contagion of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as it is a highly volatile pathogen with a high infectious capacity, but it does offer you a very high level of protection for receiving a safe surgery.
  • This protocol may be subject to modifications in the future as knowledge of COVID-19 advances and the health authorities dictate.

WARNING: Only in case you are required to do so, it is your responsibility as a patient to request and obtain the performance of the preoperative PCR test for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 within the established presurgical period, we do not assume any responsibility regarding this requirement; in case of not showing the document accrediting a negative result at the time of hospital admission for surgery your operation would be cancelled without refund and surcharges applied.
